Displacer Beast (Monster) concept art for The Forgotten Realms (Dungeons & Dragons).
i swear this was in adventure time
Wish I had seen this sooner. Gotta be one of the best displacer beast artworks I've seen.
An old favourite beast.
That looks awesome!
Now that's a monster!
This is a brillant one! And only one question: i need/want to have a picture of an displacer with wings. is that possible? Anybody knows some pictures?
I haven't seen any, I think that'd only be possible if it was half displacer, half some other creature (ex. Dragon, hippogriff, chimera, etc.)
The perfect art of a dispalcer beast
wow, i want that as a pet!
This is awesome! Displacer beast are by far my favorite Creature of any setting and they come in all shapes but this one i just think nails it. And if you don't mind i'd like to just put forward a little request if possible could you upload a larger size version of the picture to be used as a wall paper by any chance? Id be forever grateful as would many other displacer enthusiast i'm sure.
Yeah These are badass!
Displacer beast and owl bear are some of my favourite D&D icons, and your illustrations of them are fantastic!
It's an awesome design. I wonder if it would be possible to show the "displacing" effect somehow. Maybe blurring it? I don't know how, but it'll be cool
It looks scary now
I find it funny that in 3.5 this creature was very thin and had a very alien feel to him with some cat like features. As the editions have continued he has become more cat like and buff. I’m not saying that this is a bad thing, 4th had my favorite art for the displacer beast. I do feel however that the muscle n this particular beast is a bit much. It makes him look very powerful indeed but all that muscle detracts from the tentacles on his back. It also makes him look very solid. The displacer beast has its displacement ability which makes it seem as though it is somewhere it is not and I do not feel that having such a massive looking enemy gives it a feel of illusion. A slimmer form also flows better with the tentacles though the curves in the tail you drew also help. I do think you did a good job with drawing the muscles but I do not feel that they fit perfectly with this monster. The back leg in particular I find very nice, it has the muscle but not to the point that I think he is a body builder among his kind. I feel a little out of place commenting like this because you are far superior then I at drawing, the displacer beast is just one of my favorite beasties much to the agitation of my PCs.
Love this picture!
This is THE BEST rendition of the displacer beast that I've seen yet! I could actually in-visualize this coming after me (much to my chagrin!) Great job whomever you are Conceptopolis!
That is awesome and vicious looking! Really, really like!
Very nice! Actually does the monster justice!
I love this look! Much more the way I have invisioned it than the starved versions of previous editions. The only thing I would like to see -- and I have absolutely NO idea HOW you could do it, is some indication of the "displacement" effect. Heat waves or ghost images maybe? But if it went just like this, I wouldn't argue either.
Thank you, WotC, for making the displacer beast look like a cat again! And thanks for feeding him! He was starved in prior editions!
Never knew that "Avatar" took the concept from here or vice versa.
The Displacer Beast was thought up by the original Dungeons and Dragons creators in the 70's. I think it's safe to say that while there may have been some subliminal inspiration, the two ideas arose separately. It does look like something form the deep jungle of Pandora, though
